BETHANY'S MISSION
I am a working screenwriter, film director, mom, wife, and I have been living in streetwear and outerwear for the past two decades—on set and in my everyday life. From the moment my sweet mom was diagnosed with breast cancer when I was a young adult to struggling with toxic mold and mercury poisoning myself, I started living an organic and holistic lifestyle long before it was trendy or cool to do so.
In the past few years, as my husband, Josh, and I became empty nesters, I had a moment to take a long breath and think about my true purpose, and what I wanted to do moving forward. It became clear to me that my love of art coupled with my desire to find ways to create positive impacts on the earth and our bodies was vital to me. It was in that moment that I decided to create a conscious clothing + healthy essentials brand that I could still rock a cool look in, and at the same time, I could lower my carbon and water consumption.
Hence the birth of THE BEAUTIFUL EARTH. I’m striving to design and create organic, recycled, sustainable, vegan, and ethically-sourced clothing, along with healthy essentials to accompany it.
I believe that the key to collective sustainability is first learning that it does not have to be an all or nothing commitment. Some effort and small changes do have a huge impact on helping the planet as well as our own bodies. A person does not have to throw out their entire wardrobe to start living a more conscious lifestyle.
My ultimate goal is to build a community where we can all learn and grow together on this pilgrimage as we try our best to love our planet, ourselves, and each other along the way.
ON A DEEPLY PERSONAL NOTE
Raised by a single mom, I grew up with very little, and then I continued to struggle as a young, aspiring artist well into Josh and I getting married and raising our three kids in LA together. Honestly, back then, the last thing on our minds was how to live more sustainably outside of recycling our trash. We were both working around the clock, and our ultimate goal was to keep our family safe, happy, and loved, and doing it all on a very tight budget. I remember Josh and I each had one pair of tennis shoes, one pair of black boots, and that was it.
So I completely get it that fast fashion is cheaper, easier, and sometimes your only choice with the money you may have to spend. I am definitely not here to make anyone feel bad about their personal choices. We all have our own personal challenges in life, and we’re all doing the best that we can with what we have. I truly believe that.
So when you do take your time and hard-earned money to buy a piece of my clothing line, I want it to be something you love infinitely and can continue to build a wardrobe around that feels cool and elevated. There is nothing worse than finally saving up to invest in a piece of clothing that was hard to purchase within your budget, and then it goes out of style the very next season, or you can’t find pieces to coordinate with it for more than one look.
The Beautiful Earth is designed to build on a base that is layered in fall and winter, then pared down to below the base in spring and summer that gives you the advantage of investing in a conscious wardrobe that will provide myriad looks through many seasons.
I want this to be a beautiful, growing relationship between us as we build you a sustainable wardrobe that makes you feel and look good.
